2014 Topps Archives Checklist

2014 Topps Archives Additions!

Topps Archives baseball will make its return in 2014 and will include a very special insert set of ‘Major Leaguers’.  The format for Archives doesn’t change much.  Each box will include throwback images from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.  One major change to the autograph lineup is the Fan Favorite autographs will also include current players.  Previous sets have only included retired stars, so this will add some value to younger fans that may have never heard of Terry Pendleton. (sigh.)

NEW INFO!

Topps decided to add more Jose Abreu autographs to Archives that will be live and inserted into packs.

But most importantly; 2014 Topps Archives will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Major League.  From the details sent from Topps, there will be various parallels including; Gold (#/25), Red (#/10), Purple (#/5), Worst to First (1/1) and Printing Plates also 1/1.  The purple and Worst to First parallels will be hobby-only inserts.

The sell sheet only has Jake Taylor and Roger Dorn autographs listed, but look for as many stars from the cast as possible.  The autos are going to be tough as they are number to only 10 copies each.

Update: Topps has announced confirmed signers for Major League autographs:

Corbin Bernsen — Roger Dorn

Tom Berenger — Jake Taylor

Chelcie Ross — Eddie Harris

Margaret Whitton — Rachel Phelps

Charlie Sheen — Ricky Vaughn

To stay on the movie theme, insert cards highlighting the 35th anniversary of ‘The Warriors’ will also be included.  If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it. These cards will have a parallel as well numbered 10 seventy-nine copies. (ed. note: The Warriors insert set has been pulled.)

The 200-card base set will broken up by year in order, so:

  • 50 cards (1973 design)
  • 50 cards (1986 design)
  • 50 cards (1989 design)
  • 50 cards (1990 design)
  • 50 short printed cards #’d 201-250

Parallels will include Archives Gold (#/199), Silver (#/99) and of course, 1/1 printing plates.

Topps usually sends out surveys asking which years would be most popular among fans, so if you don’t like the years represented, well I don’t know what to say.  You either love this set or hate it, but hopefully you find a year you like.  The collation of Archives is usually perfect, so building it is relatively easy.

Other notable inserts:

  • 1967 Topps inserts with parallels #/99 and auto’d versions numbered to 10.
  • Case Loaders with player contracts from the Topps Vault.
  • 1971-72 Hockey designs with autos numbered to 25.
  • Mini Topps deckle edge with auto’d versions numbered to 25.
  • 1997 Stadium Club Firebrand diecut cards with auto’d versions numbered to 25.
  • 1987 All-Stars with auto’d versions numbered to only five.

Autograph inserts:

  • Topps original autographs- Stars will sign copies of vintage cards, they will be numbered to 10 and have Topps Originals foil stamping. These are hobby only.
  • Triple autographs, auto’d 1981 minis (#/25), Cut signatures of pop culture celebrities.
  • Fan Favorites autos- Silver parallel (#/25), Purple (#/10), Sapphire (#/5), Ruby (1/1), and printing plates also 1/1.
  • Not an autograph, but also included will be 1968 Topps Relic cards featuring active and retired stars with a unique diecut.

Plenty to see in 2014 Archives baseball.  It arrives during the peak of baseball card season, so the additional included rookies should give it a boost, plust the Major League autograph inserts.  Let us know what you think and check out the gallery!
