2022 Donruss Optic Baseball isn’t about new surprises. It takes what the brand is known for — a chrome makeover of the regular Donruss set — and sticks with it. Color, standout insert designs and on-card rookie autographs are just some of the hallmarks back for another year.
Hobby boxes deliver a pair of autographs as well as 20 inserts. Prizm parallels, meanwhile, average out to every other pack (10 per box).
2022 Donruss Optic Baseball Checklist: What to Look For
At 210 cards, the base set is significantly smaller than the 280 found in 2022 Donruss Baseball. However, the three main sections remain in place. The checklist kicks off with 30 Diamond Kings. Seventy Rated Rookies and 110 veterans follow.
Collectors can look for lots of parallels. Color makes up a lot of them, but there are also patterns like Velocity and Photon.
Rated Rookies Signatures are one of the main places on the checklist to find autographs. These carry over the base design as well as a mix of parallels.
There’s also similar Rated Prospects Signatures that highlight players working their way through the minors or those that debuted after the MLBPA’s cutoff for rookie debuts.
Retro 1981 Signatures, Retro 1988 Signatures and Elite Signature Series are among Optic’s other autographs.
Inserts include a mix of colorful and cartoonish designs like Mythical and Bomb Squad.
For those who hunt for rarities, Fort Knox and Neon both return.
