2020 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball variations come in several forms. Carrying on from where the earlier main release started several months ago, the High Number variations aren’t just your standard photo switches. Those are a big part of many of them, but there are also things like color changes and other subtleties. 2020 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball has six total variation types.

Action Image Variations are among the easiest to find. They’re also fairly easy to notice. In a nod to the 1971 Topps Baseball set it’s based on, portraits and posed photos dominate the base set. Action Image cards bring things like bat swings and fielding.

Luis Robert, Mookie Betts and Gerrit Cole are the only three players with Error Variations. Instead of a different photo, these have an “intentional mistake.” What exactly these are isn’t known yet, but things like spelling mistakes, stats flubs and color mix-ups have all been used in recent years.

Missing Signature and Silver Team Name Variations both make adjustments to the card’s layout. If you’re not looking for it, but are easy to miss. However, both of these SSP types are simple to spot. Base cards should have a facsimile autograph on the front. Missing Signature cards don’t. For the Silver Team Name variations, the usual colors used in the headline team name are, well, silver.

Nickname Variations replace the player’s name on the front with something else that they’re called by.

Finally, there’s the Throwback Uniform Variations. These are another photo swap style with players wearing retro jerseys from the past. These are the rarest 2020 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball variations and typically fetch big prices.

No Codes Required

Usually, with Topps variations you need to bring a good squint or magnifying glass to the party to confirm variations with the small fine print codes on the back. You could do that with 2020 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball, but you don’t have to.

Keeping in line with the earlier 2020 Topps Heritage variations and others for the brand in recent year, variations are clearly labelled on the card backs. That means no codes are needed. You also don’t have to worry about missing a subtle difference like a switched up letter, number or color.

All of the variations are clearly named on the card backs. Just look above the reverse player photo and slightly across from the card number. If it’s an SSP, the label will be there.
