2020 Topps x Pete Alonso Has the Mets Slugger Curate Baseball Card Set
2020 Topps x Pete Alonso is a set that’s not all Polar Bear, but it has his fingerprints all over it. Topps partnered with the Mets slugger to curate the set, letting Alonso help pick the designs, themes and players.
Available for ten days on the Topps website from August 25 through September 4, it’s a box set that has 50 cards and costs $60. Inside each is a full base set plus six small insert sets that compliment the checklist. Every other set also comes with an additional card — an autograph.
2020 Topps x Pete Alonso Checklist Overview
The 20-card base set consists entirely of young MLB players and rookies. Joining Alonso on the checklist are Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Robert, Yordan Alvarez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and more. A full set is in each box.
Joining them are six different insert sets totalling another 30 cards, which are also in every box. Each insert set has a different theme that ties into Alonso.
For starters, there’s 50 HR Club that lists him alongside Ken Griffey Jr., Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Aaron Judge, whose rookie home run record Alonso broke.
Hitter’s Nightmare spotlights five current pitchers while Florida Roots has five current and past players from the Sunshine State. Other inserts include Pete’s Picks, Derby Greats and the Mets-centric Franchise Favorites.
Select cards in most of the insert sets have autographs that use stickers. Alonso’s autograph, which is based on his base card, is the exception. It’s hard signed and has Blue (/99), White (/25) and Gold (1/1) parallels.
