Cheap Wax Wednesday Box Breaks: 2016 Elite Extra Edition Baseball Longevity
2016 Panini Elite Extra Edition Baseball features a 180-card base set of draft picks and prospects. There is much more to this set than just base cards, though. There are about a million (only a mild exaggeration) different parallels, plus autographed cards and relics. This set is fairly limited, as each base card is numbered to just 999 copies. 2016 doesn’t feature the most robust autograph checklist ever, but there are some good names. Pete Alonso, Luis Arraez, Corbin Burnes, Bryan Reynolds, and Tim Tebow are some of the highlights.

This set was available in a couple of different formats. Full hobby boxes featured five packs with five cards each. Upon release, those boxes were around $100. This particular box is called a Longevity box, and is a much smaller product with just two packs. There is also a USA Baseball box topper pack featuring either a relic or autograph card.

Box topper:
Carter Young/Mike Rivera/Gabe Briones/Evan Skoug Quad USA Baseball Relic 036/199

Pack 1:
Mitchell Kranson /999, Mario Feliciano /999, Taylor Trammell Aspirations Blue /75, Hoy Jun Park Dual Relic /299 & Kyle Garlick Aspirations Purple Autograph /100
Garlick has appeared in 158 major league games over the last five seasons. He hasn’t fared very well, hitting just .225.

Pack 2:
A.J. Puk /999, Mark Mathias /999, Kyle Lewis /999, Mitchell Kranson Triple Relic /299 & Mike Gerber Status Die Cut Red Autograph /75
Mike Gerber did make the majors, appearing in 30 games over a couple of partial seasons in 2018 and 2019. It appears he has hung up his spikes now.

And that is it. Short and sweet. Unfortunately, I didn’t pull one of the better names from the autograph checklist, but that is how it goes a lot of the time. Like I mentioned earlier, the 2016 release isn’t loaded with good names. I have had some luck in the past with Elite Extra Edition, though.
