2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball marks the third year in a row that the card set has been a Walmart exclusive. Like other products under the Bowman banner, a lot of the focus is on prospects. That said, rookies and veterans get a shake on the checklist as well.
2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball comes with three pack types: Fat Packs, Value Boxes and Collectors Boxes, which have two autographs.
2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball Base Set Basics
Both the main base set and the complimentary Top Prospects insert set have 100 cards. Done with foil card stock, the combined checklist highlights big names at both the MLB and MiLB levels.
Parallels for both come in eight levels. Purple (/250), Blue (/150), Green (/99), Red (/10) and Foilfractors (1/1) are available in all pack types. Fat Packs have Sky Blue versions while Ice Foilboard are only in Value Boxes. Orange parallels are exclusive to Collectors Boxes.
2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball has ten variation short prints offering different photos for select base cards.
Autographs and Memorabilia Cards
The bulk of the signed cards in 2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball are Top Prospects Autographs. More than half of the players on the main Top Prospects checklist are represented here. Parallels include Blue (/150), Green (/99), Ice Pattern Foilboard (/50), Collectors Box-exclusive Orange (/25), Red (/10) and Foilfractor (1/1).
Key emerging players are in 80-Grade Prospect Autographs.
Platinum Cut Autographs return. These come die-cut and feature signatures from both young major leaguers and prospects.
2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball has a pair of memorabilia inserts, Platinum Patches and Platinum Rookie Auto Pieces.
Although autographs are in all three pack types, they combine to land two per Collectors box.
Additional Inserts
2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball has a handful of additional inserts as well. Hunter Greene gets a ten-card set to call his own. The SP checklist also has signed parallels.
Rookie Revelations take a two-photo approach with a design that’s a little reminiscent of Pinnacle Afficianado from the ’90s. These also have autographs for select cards.
Bringing both a bold design and alliteration is the 40-card Platinum’s Prismatic Prodigies.
Finally, there’s Platinum Presence, which has stars from across all levels of baseball.
