2019 Topps Heritage Baseball Variations — All You Need to Know
The 2019 Topps Heritage Baseball variations checklist is big and varied. But if you’ve been collecting the brand for a while, it won’t come as a surprise. This time around, there are six different types of short prints. These range from the relatively easy to pull — at least as a whole — to the downright scarce. Some you’ll be able to spot right away while others will require a bit of a closer look. Even then, Topps has made it easier to find 2019 Topps Heritage Baseball Variations compared to past years.

Things start with Action Image Variations, which are basic photo variations. These, along with Team Color Name Variations are only in 2019 Topps Heritage Baseball hobby packs. Error, Trade, Nickname and Throwback Uniform Variations are all in both hobby and retail.
While there’s more to come, here’s a lot of 2019 Topps Baseball variations info to give you a head start on what to look for.
2019 Topps Heritage Baseball Variations Breakdown
2019 Topps Heritage Action Image Variations
The 2019 Topps Heritage Action Image Variations are among the more common. The do have a couple of different types, though. For veterans, these use game photos. Mimicking the original 1970 Topps Baseball set, base images are a lot of posed shots and portraits. So Action Image Variations bring a more modern approach to photography as well as some additional excitement.

Five rookies are also part of the Action Image Variations checklist. On their base cards, these players are paired up with a rookie teammate as part of the Rookie Stars subset. For the Action Image Variations, they get a solo card. The card numbers on the variations aren’t the same as the base cards they appear on.
Action Image Variations are only in hobby packs.
Odds:
- Hobby – 1:41
2019 Topps Heritage Throwback Uniform Variations
Throwback Uniform Variations are typically some of the most coveted cards each year that don’t have an autograph or are an ultra-hot Rookie Card. The reason? They’re extremely tough to pull and, therefore, exceptionally rare despite their lack of serial number.
The concept behind these is a simple one — players are pictured in retro uniforms.
Odds:
- Hobby – 1:10,879
- Retail – 1:11,132
- Blaster – 1:11,254
- Retail Fat Pack – 1:5,328
- Retail Hanger Box – 1:2,787
2019 Topps Heritage Error Variations
Error Variations are intentional mistakes. In the past, these have looked to the set they’re based on for inspiration. In this case, it’s 1970 Topps Baseball. Things like small spelling mistakes, wrong photos and vital info snafus have all been in play.
These can also be extremely subtle and easy to miss, so using the tip-off from Topps by the card number may be the easiest way to find some of these.
Odds:
- Hobby – 1:4,583
- Retail – 1:4,536
- Blaster – 1:4,738
- Retail Fat Pack – 1:2,060
- Retail Hanger Box – 1:1,187
2019 Topps Heritage Trade Variations
Topps Heritage Trade Variations note a recent transaction with an added line of text in the vitals on the back. For these, it’s an additional “Acquired” line that’s below “Home.” Like a lot of Error Variations, these can easily slip by.

- Hobby – 1:2,288
- Retail – 1:2,268
- Blaster – 1:2,301
- Retail Fat Pack – 1:1,030
- Retail Hanger Box – 1:558
2019 Topps Heritage Nickname Variations

Odds:
- Hobby – 1:2,288
- Retail – 1:2,268
- Blaster – 1:2,301
- Retail Fat Pack – 1:1,030

2019 Topps Heritage Team Name Color Variations
Also known as Color Swap cards, these play with the team name on the font. Team Name Color Variations are only in hobby packs.

Two Ways to Spot 2019 Topps Heritage Baseball Variations on the Back
Card backs offer a couple of different ways to spot and confirm 2019 Topps Heritage Baseball variations. As usual, you can look to the fine print and take note of the codes at the end. Base cards and variations (along with other parts of the product) have a different code at the end.

- Base (#1-400) – 092
- Base SP (#401-500) – 112
- Action Variation – 124
- Error Variation – 121
- Nickname Variation – 126
- Team Color Variation – 125
- Throwback Uniform Variation – 123
- Trade Variation – 122

I have always loved this set, but I wish they would go back to some of the earlier years and limit the variations so it is possible to put together a complete set.
French variation has no text under back number. Serial number ends in 093.
AFA checklist I’ve pulled 421 Upton & 430 Ohtani thus far.
@Strofan – We’re treating the French text like a parallel. Still figuring if it’s all cards or partial parallel like Minis and Silver.
I got a couple of cards I want to grade…where can I do that!?
@Dariel – The BGS site is located at: https://www.beckett.com/grading/
Recently purchased box at LCS yielded every pack in which first (2) cards were noticeably a different shade of gray…much lighter, slash better player name and position barely noticeable (nearly white). Every pack contained two and sequence seemed odd. Not purple, silver or flip…anyone reported a difference in front of cards? Or tint? Is it possible just print error? Thanks
any idea what a code 120 is? silver? it has no serial #
In. Response to N about the different shades of gray the same thing was apparent last year in heritage as well if u fan the cards just enough to expose the “white” of every card in the pack usually the high number and or variations are noticeably a darker tinge of white. I looked at this years when I got my first box and the same trend continues for 2019 the darker shades (or lighter not sure of the top of my head) are SPs, ie high number/variations. Hope this helped anyone…
I pulled card for 66 of scooter gennett with a 120 code on the card. The border is shiny almost like a chrome card but the picture is a regular base Set photo with him standing holding the bat. There’s no serial number or identification under the number. Can anybody help me identify this card and what it is
@James – What color is the border? If it’s purple, it sounds like the Chrome Purple Refractor.
Ryan, in answer to your comment the border is the same as the chrome cards, just s little dimmer but still has the chrome look
Thanks for the info. My card is 466 and the border is a shiney silver. Its looks chrome but the picture is a regular base photo which is not chrome. The card code is 120…..Have you heard of any cards looking like this and can you help me identify it…
Thanks for your time Ryan
James Mitchell, 120 variation code is a silver metal variation. I got a Khris Davis silver metal the other day.
Blake Snell has a nickname variation with Zilla on it.
Thank you so much for this. Comprehensive and easy to understand. Wish there was more out there like this.
@Brad – Thanks! We do breakdowns similar to this for virtually every current product with variations. You can get easy access to the baseball ones here: https://www.beckett.com/news/category/baseball/variations-and-sp-info-baseball/
Why do some cards have smaller numbers in the circle where it says topps ?
@Brandon – I beleive it’s based on how long the players have been in the league. More years for stats means less room for everything else.
I pulled a gleyber torres cmp032131 photo card 05/15 cant find any info on it
who know how much cards Ihave abook of them some or over 30yearold
I have a bunch of cards with 321 as the code. I don’t see that code on any lists anywhere? Anyone know what it might be?
@Eric – For this set, it’s easier to look for variations with the labels by the card number as shown in this article. It’s also possible that you might have cards from another series like Heritage High Number.
I have a Wander Franco 2019 Topps Heritage Image Variation #400 ungraded. I can’t find any price list for this card.
The price guide can be accessed in the top menu of this page.
I just pulled a French text Nolan Arenado bottom number 2093. Any idea how rare these are? 1:?????
