1999-00 Flair Showcase Feel the Game #6 Karl Malone

The 19-year Hall of Fame NBA career Karl Malone delivered to fans began in 1985 with the Utah Jazz, wrapping up after one year in Los Angeles with the Lakers in 2004. Along the way, the 14-time All-Star became one of the most decorated power forwards the game has ever seen, winning two Most Valuable Player awards (1997, 1999). And his cards are still a must-have for collectors.

Karl Malone

A second-team All-American in 1985, Malone was the 13th overall pick in the ’85 draft out of Louisiana Tech. The “Mail Man” hit the ground running as a rookie averaging 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Malone made first-team All-Rookie, finishing third in ROY voting behind runner-up Xavier McDaniel and winner Patrick Ewing.

For the next 15 years, Malone received regular season MVP votes showcasing his place and longevity in the game. The other thing that started in Year 2, 16 consecutive seasons averaging 20 or more points per game and nine consecutive seasons averaging 10 or more rebounds per game.

In addition to being part of the NBA 50th and 75th Anniversary teams, Malone was a two-time US Olympic Gold Medal winner (1992, 1996), and has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame twice; once as a member of the 1992 US Olympic team and in 2010 for his NBA career.

1990-91 Malone Cards

Going into 1990, there is a bigger pool of cards for collectors to choose from for Malone, but still no Topps. Star has several cards for collectors, including an 11-card set breaking down different aspects of Malone’s life from individual season, overall career, and personal life. Card hobby beliefs, there were 5,000 sets produced, and there were 250 limited edition Glossy cards released. Even though there are limited amounts of 1990 Star cards out there, values are all around $1.

1990-91 Panini Stickers Spanish #139 Karl Malone and 1990-91 Panini Stickers Greek #49 Karl Malone can sell for around $15 in mint condition.

The most valuable card is the 1990-91 SkyBox Prototypes #282 Karl Malone. Graded high-end copies typically start around $100 and up. For hard core collectors, cards from this set are a fun and unique addition to the PC. The set was comprised of 10 cards, which were mailed to members of the media and card dealers to hype the new product. The number of cards in circulation is unknown, but sure to follow under most collectors’ definition of a short print.

1991-92 Malone Cards

We have a new card giant in the collecting pool for 1991-92 – Upper Deck. UD put Malone’s name on 11 different cards, that included their international cards in Spanish and Italian.

1991-92 Upper Deck #51 Karl Malone All-Star

SkyBox and Hoops went heavy on US Olympic cards in addition to base flagship releases. The SkyBox #NNO can bring the money. A raw mint version values around $60. Graded 10s can start at $550 going to $600.

Two more prototypes enter the field this year. The 1991-92 Hoops Prototypes 00 #9 Karl Malone All-Star can bring good value in mint condition ($30). The one to chase is 1991-92 Pro Set Prototypes #5 Karl Malone. Mint values are around $250.

1992-93 Malone Cards

The field is flooded with manufacturers this year, and Topps joins the foray with Stadium Club.

If you are a (Kenner) Starting Lineup collector, 1992 SLU Basketball Dream Team #10 Charles Barkley/Larry Bird/Patrick Ewing/Magic Johnson/Michael Jordan/Karl Malone/Chris Mullin/Scottie Pippen/David Robinson/John Stockton is for you ($100 mint).

The most valuable card in the group: 1992-93 Stadium Club Beam Team Members Only Parallel #17 Karl Malone. Graded 10s can top $350.

1993-94 Karl Malone Cards

Collectors have even more items to choose from in ’93-94 releases, 118 per the Beckett Online Price Guide (OPG). The top 10 value cards in the set all come from a 10-card Fleer set: 1993-94 Ultra Karl Malone. What makes them so valuable? The autographs with a 2,000-print run for each of the 10. Mint values at $125.

1994-95 Malone Cards

Upper Deck responded to Fleer the following year, producing five Collector’s Choice Gold (facsimile) Autographed cards. High end values at $20. But it was Topps that cleared the field with Finest Refractors; our first Refractor on the value board ($40 mint). The start of a new era that continues today in the hobby.

1994-95 Finest Refractors #195 Karl Malone

That next step in the collecting journey, the hard to find and rare, 1994-95 Finest Cornerstone Refractors Test #CS4 Karl Malone. Not intended for the public, as is always the case, a few somehow magically found their way to the public. Holding a mint version of a Test model is worth about $500 mint.

1995-96 Malone Cards

Not helping the “Junk Wax Era” cause, the OPG lists 175 Malone related items for this year alone. Two Topps Finest cards highlight the group ($30-80):

  • 1995-96 Finest Mystery Borderless Refractors/Gold #M12 Karl Malone
  • 1995-96 Finest Mystery Bordered Refractors Test #M12 Karl Malone

Some companies and collectors recognize one of the releases as “Orange Border” (pictured).

The most valuable from the year: 1995 Jam Session Game Test Samples #P9 Karl Malone. Near-Mint asking prices on secondary markets are over $100.

1996-97 Malone Cards

The card market is oversaturated this year, 218 Malone items in the OPG, but of all the years to this point, this one holds more value cards than any other prior years. The OPG lists 13 cards that value, high-end, at $100 or more, from Bowman, Topps Chrome, Ultra Starring Role, Ultra Platinum, Skybox Premier Golden Touch, and Flair Showcase Legacy Collection.

1996-97 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection Row 0 #28 Karl Malone comes in second in highest value ($300 mint) followed by 1996-97 E-X2000 Credentials #74 Karl Malone ($500 mint).

1997-98 Malone Cards

In terms of top high-end value, this year outproduces ’96 with three key cards at the top. A BGS 9.5 Co-Signers #CO1 Karl Malone/Kobe Bryant sold on Aug. 8, 2025, for $5,795 with a buyer’s premium on Goldin Auctions (pictured).

  • 1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems #97 Karl Malone /90 ($4,000 mint)
  • 1997-98 Stadium Club Co-Signers #CO1 Karl Malone/Kobe Bryant
  • 1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #19 Karl Malone /62 ($5,000 mint)
1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems #97 Karl Malone /90

1998-99 Malone Cards

There was a reduction in products released in ’98-99, 181 Malone cards in the OPG, but not a drop in high-dollar cards. If you own a SkyBox Thunder Rave, Premium Autographics, Premium Autographics Blue, or Premium Star Rubies, you have a great hit card in your collection.

With print runs of 50 and 100, the two most valuable:

  • 1998-99 Fleer Playmakers Theatre #10 Karl Malone /100 ($2,500 mint)
  • 1998-99 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems #75 Karl Malone ($6,000 mint)
1998-99 Fleer Playmakers Theatre #10 Karl Malone /100

1999-00 Malone Cards

The last release of the decade saw an overwhelming number of sets hit the market. There are 258 Malone items in the OPG for ’99. The top seven are all serial-numbered cards with print runs ranging from 25 to 49.

Of the seven, Upper Deck holds value spots 2-7 between SP Authentic Sign of the Times Gold, Game Jerseys, Ovation Piece of History Autographs, MVP Game-Used Souvenirs, and HoloGrFX NBA Shoetime.

Because of scarcity and lack of sales on secondary public platforms, 1999-00 E-X Essential Credentials Future #49 Karl Malone /12 is more likely to be of higher value than the aforementioned. Values have been set on the 1999-00 E-X Essential Credentials Now #49 Karl Malone /49, up to $2,000 in mint condition. Finding images of Credentials Future or Credentials Now, and of quality, is near impossible, so we have a base version for display.
