Collectors will be on the lookout for 2025 Topps Chrome Baseball rookie cards today as they begin ripping into packs and boxes of the product, which marks the 30th edition of the popular set.

The new release features 100 rookie cards on the base checklist, and top picks among collectors will likely include Roki Sasaki, James Wood, Dylan Crews, Jacob Wilson, Kristian Campbell, and Hyeseong Kim.

Rookie cards have been a regular feature in almost every Topps Chrome Baseball set since its inception in 1996. In recognition of the product’s 30th year, we are taking a closer look at 30 of the best Topps Chrome Baseball rookie cards, which are listed chronologically below.

Please note that these picks are taken exclusively from the flagship Chrome set, so any player who only appeared in a Chrome Traded or Update edition – such as Ichiro Suzuki (2001 Topps Chrome Traded) or Paul Skenes (2024 Topps Chrome Update) – will not have a place on this list.

Values reflect current raw, mint condition listings from the Beckett Online Price Guide.

Notable Topps Chrome Baseball Rookie Cards

As Topps Chrome turns 30 today, take a stroll through the brand’s history and explore the best Topps Chrome Baseball rookie cards released so far.

1996 Topps Chrome #92 Matt Morris

Collectors might be scratching their heads about this one, but there’s a plausible reason for putting a two-time All-Star and one-time 20-game winner on the list – his is the only rookie card in either of the first two years of Topps Chrome Baseball. The 1996 and 1997 Topps Chrome sets had only 165 cards as the brand gained its footing. But once it became clear collectors craved Chrome, Topps expanded the set, and the number of rookies grew exponentially, though you’ll see that it didn’t equate to many prominent rookie cards for a few years.

2001 Topps Chrome #596 Albert Pujols

Pujols came out of nowhere in 2001 and forced his way onto the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster. His early-season surge forced Topps to get the eventual Rookie of the Year onto the Topps Chrome Series 2 checklist, which likely set off a race against the calendar for the production team. Pujols did not have a flagship Topps card to use as a foundation, so Topps had to start from scratch (you may notice the “Late Addition” tag under the Topps Chrome logo). Considering Pujols’ accolades, collectors are thankful for the company’s efforts.

Value: $250

2002 Topps Chrome #622 Joe Mauer

As the top overall selection in the 2001 MLB Draft, Mauer’s rookie cards made a big splash throughout many of 2002’s products – including Topps Chrome – even though his major-league debut was still two years away. His rookie card arrived in conjunction with the first Topps Chrome set to have multiple parallels, the base Gold Refractors and /50 Black Refractors. He eventually racked up three batting titles, an MVP, and a spot in the Hall of Fame (2024), leaving this card highly desirable.

Value: $60

2004 Topps Chrome #219 Yadier Molina

It took collectors and baseball fans time to realize Molina’s superstardom, but after 19 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, the defensive stalwart built a solid argument for Hall of Fame induction. Molina was drafted in 2000, but he was so overlooked in the minors that he never even had a Bowman card until 2004 – the same year he broke into the majors and made the Topps Chrome checklist. Four years after that, he earned his first Gold Glove, began to garner widespread attention, and the rest is history.

Value: $80

2005 Topps Chrome #242 Justin Verlander

In 2004, Topps introduced autographed rookie cards to the Topps Chrome base set, but none of the players included in the inaugural run had particularly memorable careers. That changed in 2005 with the inclusion of Verlander’s rookie auto. The second overall pick from the 2004 MLB Draft found his way onto the Topps Chrome checklist before making his debut at the end of the season. As a three-time Cy Young Award winner, Verlander’s card reigns supreme among the rookie autos included in the Topps Chrome base sets from 2004-09.

Value: $400

2010 Topps Chrome #190 Mike Stanton

If you are wondering why this Mike Stanton fellow looks familiar, it may be because you know him by a different name – Giancarlo. His full name is Giancarlo Cruz Michael Stanton, and he went by Mike as a youngster because his friends had trouble pronouncing Giancarlo. Before the 2012 season, Stanton indicated he preferred to be called Giancarlo, but that still leaves his rookie cards under the name Mike. Though when you can hit prodigious home runs like he does, collectors don’t seem to care whether you go by Mike or Giancarlo.

Value: $12

2010 Topps Chrome #212 Stephen Strasburg

Every so often a pitcher comes around that captures everyone’s attention. There was “The Bird” in 1976. “Fernandomania” in 1981. Dwight Gooden’s banner years of 1984 and ’85. Japanese sensation Hideo Nomo arrived in 1995. And then, Stephen Strasburg in 2010. A highly touted prospect, Strasburg catapulted his way to the majors in less than a year and struck out 14 batters in his big-league debut. He struggled with injuries throughout his career, but with an electric fastball and miniscule ERAs when healthy, collectors won’t forget him.

Value: $5

2011 Topps Chrome #173 Freddie Freeman

After a 20-game trial in 2010, Freeman earned an Opening Day roster spot the next spring and has never looked back. As one of baseball’s most dependable players and most consistent hitters, Freeman has combined his on-field prowess with a sparkling off-field personality that has brought him legions of fans. And for those in the legion who collect cards, most of them probably have a space reserved for his Topps Chrome rookie card.

Value: $60

2011 Topps Chrome #205 Chris Sale

With a tall, lean frame, Sale has used a jerky but powerful pitching motion to collect wins and strikeouts at every stop during his career. His unusual delivery is captured on his Topps Chrome rookie card, giving collectors a glimpse of the motion batters would eventually fear. Sale was already popular with collectors, but after winning the pitching Triple Crown and earning his first Cy Young Award at age 35 in 2024, he added to an already sparkling résumé.

Value: $6

2012 Topps Chrome #196 Bryce Harper

Harper is another prodigy who made a fast climb up the minor-league ladder and into the collections of many. He gained notoriety as a high schooler on the cover of Sports Illustrated and has so far backed up the hype with two MVPs and eight All-Star selections – and there’s no reason he can’t add more accolades before he hangs up the spikes. His 2012 Topps Chrome rookie card also has a short-printed variation, which showcases a horizontal shot of him sliding into third base.

Value: $50

2013 Topps Chrome #12 Manny Machado

Machado is the full package – a strong hitter, a superb fielder, and he’ll steal a base on teams that aren’t paying attention. His Topps Chrome rookie card highlights his strong throwing arm from third base, which earned him a Platinum Glove and has put him on dozens of highlight reels. The 14-year veteran is still going strong, and considering he is only 33 years old, he likely has several more productive years left in him.

Value: $15

2013 Topps Chrome #32 Jose Fernandez

A boating accident cut short Fernandez’s promising career after four seasons at age 24, but his brief, albeit impressive, legacy lives on through his baseball cards – including a Topps Chrome rookie. His 2013 issue is an uncorrected error card – note the Seattle Mariners logo that should be the Miami Marlins. The young Fernandez already had an All-Star appearance to his credit and was on his way to Rookie of the Year honors when this card was released, and he added a second All-Star nod in 2016, his final season.

Value: $2.50

2013 Topps Chrome #210 Gerrit Cole

Before there was Paul Skenes drawing the attention in Pittsburgh, there was Gerrit Cole. He enjoyed one All-Star campaign with the Pirates, but his best years and most memorable moments came during his tenure with the Houston Astros and his current team, the New York Yankees. His horizontal Topps Chrome rookie card delivers a stunning look at the blossoming ace during his major-league debut, and a short-printed variation shows him walking from the mound as a fan in the crowd holds up a homemade sign in his honor.

Value: $10

2014 Topps Chrome #45 Jose Ramirez

Players from Cleveland do not always generate much excitement among collectors, and even Ramirez flies somewhat under the radar. A perennial All-Star, Ramirez has spent his entire career on the shore of Lake Erie, but he’s made seven of the last nine All-Star Games, finished in the top five of MVP voting four times, and was one homer away from a 40/40 season in 2024. A young Ramirez, who has notched double-digit stolen base totals for 12 straight years, chugs around the base paths on his 2014 Topps Chrome rookie card.

Value: $25

2015 Topps Chrome #202 Francisco Lindor

Topps introduced a handful of short-printed rookie cards at the end of the 2015 Topps Chrome set, and the most prominent player from that group 10 years later is Lindor. He has gained an All-Star selection or MVP votes in almost every year of his career and maintains one of the brightest personalities in the game. When combining Lindor’s star power with the short-printed production, it creates a recipe for collector demand that has made this a popular card ever since its release date.

Value: $100

2016 Topps Chrome #32 Trea Turner

Turner has made three stops in his career so far, and all three have been successful. A World Series champ with the Nationals. A .300 hitter with the Dodgers. An All-Star with the Phillies. It just seems to go on and on for Turner, who made his first Topps Chrome appearance as a 23-year-old on his way to a Rookie of the Year runner-up finish in 2016.

Value: $8

2017 Topps Chrome #169 Aaron Judge

Though Judge is known more for his power than his defense, his Topps Chrome rookie card captures him doing work in the field. On the card, Judge leaps to make a catch at the wall after Toronto’s Edwin Encarnacion lifted a deep fly to left field on September 7. You can’t see it on the card, but the blue section on the Yankee Stadium outfield wall is part of an advertisement for PlayStation, which read: “Greatness Awaits.” How fitting.

Value: $100

2018 Topps Chrome #150 Shohei Ohtani

When Ohtani arrived on the MLB scene in 2018, it made sense for him to have two cards in every set. As a standout pitcher and hitter, Ohtani created an unusual situation for manufacturers, because he essentially became two players in one – and each player deserved his own card. In Topps Chrome, that was remedied by issuing a base and short-printed rookie card. On the base version, Ohtani starts his windup, while on the variation, he runs onto the field from the dugout

Value: $150

2018 Topps Chrome #193 Ronald Acuña Jr.

Another exciting rookie from 2018 was Acuña. With a rare combination of vicious power and lightning speed, collectors became giddy over Acuña’s cards as he burst onto the scene. He takes a big swing during his Rookie of the Year campaign on his Topps Chrome rookie card, and five seasons later, he became the founding member of the 40/70 club, with 41 homers and 73 steals during his MVP season in 2023.

Value: $30

  • Shop for the Topps Chrome Ronald Acuña Jr. rookie on eBay

2019 Topps Chrome #201 Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

A wave of second-generation talent made their major-league debuts in the late 2010s, and one of the most prominent players in the group is Guerrero Jr., the son of a Hall of Famer. The gargantuan slugger takes a big swing on his Topps Chrome rookie card, which is one of many memorable first-year cards from that set. The 26-year-old Guerrero already has five All-Star game selections to his credit, and if he can continue playing nearly every day, his career totals have plenty of room to grow.

Value: $15

  • Shop for the Topps Chrome Vladimir Guerrero Jr. rookie on eBay

2019 Topps Chrome #203 Fernando Tatis Jr.

As the face of the San Diego Padres, Tatis Jr. – the son of a former major-league veteran – has brought excitement to the city with his brash style and offensive exploits. Injuries have been a concern, but now in his sixth season, he already has three All-Star selections, two Silver Sluggers, and a Platinum Glove. Tatis is locked up on a 14-year contract, so if he continues to play at a superstar level, this could become a must-have card for every Padres collector.

Value: $15

  • Shop for the Topps Chrome Fernando Tatis Jr. rookie on eBay

2019 Topps Chrome #204 Pete Alonso

Few players have made a major-league entrance like Alonso did in 2019. His 53 home runs established a new rookie record, and for good measure, he won his first Home Run Derby that year, too. Barring an injury, Alonso will surpass 250 home runs this year in only his seventh season. That will make him the fifth player ever to achieve the feat that fast, joining Hall of Famers Eddie Mathews and Ralph Kiner, soon-to-be inducted Albert Pujols, and Ryan Howard.

Value: $12

2021 Topps Chrome #103 Tarik Skubal

Throughout Skubal’s first four seasons from 2020-23, there were signs he could become an ace (namely his striking out more than a batter an inning). But had collectors known what was coming in 2024, they likely would have stocked up on his Topps Chrome rookie card when it came out three years earlier. Skubal won the pitching Triple Crown and his first Cy Young Award in 2024, propelling his rookies into new territory, and with another solid season in the works in 2025, they remain a popular pick with collectors.

Value: $15

2022 Topps Chrome #149 Cal Raleigh

Raleigh has always had power, but no one expected the season he has been enjoying in 2025. “BIg Dumper” tied or surpassed records held by multiple Hall of Famers before the All-Star break, and collectors will be home run watch through the end of the season. With his breakout campaign, Raleigh’s Topps Chrome rookie card has become a fan favorite, and until he stops sending baseballs out of stadiums, that will likely remain the case.

Value: $12

  • Shop for the 2022 Topps Chrome Cal Raleigh rookie on eBay

2022 Topps Chrome #221 Bobby Witt Jr.

The 2022 Topps Chrome set had an exciting list of five short-printed rookies at the end of the checklist, but a production error meant those cards never made it into packs. Topps, however, found a solution to get those cards into collectors’ hands, and the limited production has left Witt Jr.’s Topps Chrome rookie card as one of the most valuable Chrome base cards in the product’s history. Because it is a variation, the “base” version of this card has a Refractor finish.

Value: $200

  • Shop for the 2022 Topps Chrome Bobby Witt Jr. rookie on eBay

2022 Topps Chrome #222 Julio Rodriguez

Like Witt Jr., Rodriguez was also slated as a high-number rookie short print in 2022 Topps Chrome. He won Rookie of the Year honors that year after posting a 25/25 season and a .284 average. Rodriguez followed it up by going 30/30. Only 24-years-old, the three-time All-Star seems primed for a lengthy and successful career. Again, as a variation, this card’s “base” version has a Refractor finish.

Value: $60

2023 Topps Chrome #95 Corbin Carroll

Possessing a rare power-speed combination, Carroll barrels around the bases – unless he is in his home run trot. His 25 home runs, 54 steals, and 10 triples pushed him to Rookie of the Year honors in 2023. The 24-year-old remains among the most exciting young players in baseball, and collectors have plenty of opportunities to grab his Topps Chrome rookie card, as it has a pair of variations – an SP picturing him with his glove on his head and an SSP of him getting an ice cooler dumped on him during a postgame interview.

Value: $8

  • Shop for the 2023 Topps Chrome Corbin Carroll rookie on eBay

2024 Topps Chrome #16 Pete Crow-Armstrong

Crow-Armstrong carried plenty of prospect pedigree on his way to the majors, but if his 2025 season is an indication of what is to come from the young standout, a big star is in the making. He amassed a 25/25 season before the All-Star break, and fans and collectors will watch closely down the stretch to see if he can join the 40/40 club. A short-printed variation of his rookie card shows him walking and adjusting his sunglasses.

Value: $12

  • Shop for the 2024 Topps Chrome Pete Crow-Armstrong rookie on eBay

2024 Topps Chrome #44 Elly De La Cruz

De La Cruz opened his career on fire, hitting safely in his first six games and later stealing seven bases in a span of five games. He hasn’t slowed down, becoming one of the most collected young players in the process. His Topps Chrome rookie card is a favorite among collectors, and the flip side shows why. It features a quote from Joey Votto, who compared De La Cruz to Mickey Mantle. Topps made two variations of De La Cruz’s rookie, an SP of him at a news conference and an SSP of him wearing a Viking helmet in the dugout.

Value: $20

  • Shop for the 2024 Topps Chrome Elly De La Cruz rookie on eBay

2024 Topps Chrome #88 Jackson Holliday

Two years after being selected No. 1 overall in the MLB Draft, the second-generation Holliday made his major-league debut for the Orioles and earned a spot in 2024 Topps Chrome. Still only 21 years old, Holliday has already shown he can hold his own at the highest level and seems to have plenty of room to grow. Topps took notice by giving him two rookie variations, a short print of him wearing a headset and an SSP of him wearing a beanie. A fun note: his dad, Matt, also has a Topps Chrome rookie card in the 1999 set.

Value: $15

Topps Chrome Baseball Rookie Cards Worth Mentioning

Below are five additional Topps Chrome Baseball rookie and prospect cards that have an interesting story.

1996 Topps Chrome #80 Derek Jeter

While not a rookie card – those can be found in 1993 sets – the 1996 Topps Chrome Derek Jeter Future Stars is the most prominent card from the debut set.

1996 Topps Chrome #4 Todd Helton

Once again, not a true rookie card, but Helton’s appearance in the Draft Picks portion of the checklist gives collectors another young Hall of Famer to target in the inaugural set.

1998 Topps #254 Prospects

So, maybe collectors don’t target this Prospects card because it’s Ryan Minor’s rookie card. It also happens to be a second-year card of Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre. Another prominent card lives three spots away on the checklist, a Prospects card that includes a second-year offering of David Ortiz, also a Hall of Famer.

1998 Topps Chrome #240 Pete Rose Jr.

The younger Rose never made as big of an impact as his father, but after playing his only 11 career games with the Reds in 1997, Topps was the only manufacturer to give him a rookie card. The company included one of them in 1998 Topps Chrome.

2000 Topps Chrome #445 Prospects

Speaking of second-generation talent, Topps got creative when putting together its trios for its 2000 Prospects subset. On this card, three sons of major leaguers appear: Tim Raines Jr., Gary Matthews Jr., and Garry Maddox Jr., whose appearance makes this a rookie card.
